Our Breeding fee of $850 includes a booking fee of $250.
We will offer very limited cooled semen for shipping in 2010 breeding season. We do offer high quality frozen semen
shipped to approved breeding facilities and Vet Clinics. Frostburns semen freezes excellent and that is the same semen we
use to breed our own mares. We have live covered in the past and have seen no difference in the conception rate.
We have excellent results! We A.I. through Cedar Crest Equine Clinic, located about 17 miles South of Athens
on Hwy. 19.
We have kept Frostburns Breeding fee reasonable and will try and continue to do so. We want to breed quality mares
in competitive homes who want to raise and compete on their foal.
The mare owner is responsible for the mare costs associated with the A.I. process. These are the same fees we pay to
breed our own mares.
A mare must have a clean uturine culture prior to breeding (*),
be in good health and body condition, as well as being halter broke, and handle safely. We know some mares have
bad habits and we don't expect them to be perfect but they must be able to be handled and palpated, ultrasounded, and A.I.'d
in the stock. If a mare is a kicker when palpated she wil be given a sedative for a minimal fee.
If you bring your mare to breed and she has already ovulated, she can be given a Lutalyse injection to bring her back
into heat in 5 to 7 days in most cases.
(*) A mare bred on foal heat must be flushed within 72 hours of foaling by a liscensed Vet and then no
culture is required.
Here are a few costs to help you figure your estimated expenses:
Culture $45
(If mare is dirty Dr. Hicks will give you clean up $$ cost depending on type of infection, or you can have your mare
cultured prior to arrival. We'll just need a clean culture report from your vet)
A.I. fee $50
Ultrasounds
$15 each
(number depends on where she is in her cycle when brought in )
Sometimes an HCG injection is given to help with ovulation,
They are $ 15
Board
$14 dry mare
$16 mare and foal
$18 special care board
If you are unable to pick up your mare after A.I we can bring her to the farm to board of she can stay at Cedar Crest
Equine. If we bring her to our farm to wait for pickup the board fees are the same.
